What you Can Learn about Marketing to a Sports Audience
Bonobos No ❌
Immediately No ❌
Immediately No ❌
You are really putting the NO in Bonobos.
We do not park golf carts on greens, practice greens are no exception!
Bonobos is not alone.
This happens to the best of the best: from Jordan Brand to Nike to Greyson. None of us are immune.
The reasons are multifaceted, but it’s often that the artistic needs of the creative team & the business needs of the sales team supersede the authenticity of the audience’s sport. There are sometimes good reasons for this, but can’t surpass the eye test of the target consumer.
Can you spot the problem?
If you (or any other brand) are shooting sports ever again, here are three factors to consider.
1. Target Consumer
You should always allow your target consumer (or someone in this archetype) a look at the content before it goes out. In this day and age of hyper-targeted audience specification, even the most basic marketing teams are going to reach the core consumer and that consumer will call you out just like I'm doing now.
or like @GolfProjects did below. or @Landforce did.
2. Hire a Sport Tech
You can hire a sport tech. You hired a director, photographer, stylist… all kinds of people. You can hire a person who played at a high level to make sure that the motions you capture are authentic and that the contexts are authentic.
No one is doing better Golf Content than Manors Golf right now.
3. Vet the Content
And Three: if you don't have the budget for that, just grab somebody who's passionate or played the sport at a decently high level to vet the content so that something like this never happens again.
My Caddie would gladly tell you!
Send this to a friend so we can prevent travesties like this one.
Take notes from Manors Golf if you’d like.
But, ignorance is no longer bliss.
