Is AI taking Sports Jobs?
The Consequences of Chat GPT's Image Creator
If you’re a graphic designer in sports (or otherwise), I would be looking to develop new skills ASAP. Let’s discuss, but first, the BrandFathers react to all the Chat GPT image ads in week one and down below you’ll see some new projects I’m working on in the golf space…
Let’s jump in.

Oren’s Finest Work
Chat GPT Image Insanity: Sports Edition
A very cool artist, Warren Lotas, does a lot of really cool skulls-meet-sportswear designs, and he dropped a collection for March Madness. But the basketball team that I pull for, Texas Tech, was strangely absent.

I know that Warren Lotas has a good sense of humor, because he regularly posts the bootleg designs that are out there. I have no doubt that he will zig while AI zags, but time will tell.
I took two single images, a single reference of his shirt design for Texas and another of the Texas Tech mascot. I asked ChatGPT to create a Warren Lotas inspired black hoodie. Look at what it delivered to me in 30 seconds. 🤯

As a follow up, I asked ChatGPT to make it look more hand drawn. It then spit out this image. Sure it's got some spelling issues, but it even included the small logos in the back like Lotas typically does. (Licensing rights require this.)

How bout the Masked Rider?
This was really cool. It added the Texas Tech logo in multiple spots, but it also included Lotas’ name, which is creepy, and I didn’t like. I asked ChatGPT not to include his name but it couldn't figure out how to remove it.
However, the chatbot next asked me if I would like it to add a flaming basketball, to which I’m thinking, “Is that a rhetorical question? Yes, I would like a flaming basketball”. So I responded yes and we got a flaming basketball and flaming eyeballs. I asked it to remove his name again and it still struggled with that.
Now, I know this is not an Illustrator file and can’t actually be used to print anything. But I do know that you could pull this image into Procreate and trace it to convert it into an Illustrator file.
College Sports Jobs
One of the most common uses of graphic designers in college is to mock up future pros during the Draft or showing new uniforms of Transfers now..
Last week my buddy Tyson, who's at BYU, mocked this one up in ChatGPT, which was fine, but had a couple of irregularities. Four days later…. bro.

The Good News? I do think we'll move to a place where people want human beings designing things. So, there's always gonna be a place for artists and designers, but this next phase that we're about to enter into is gonna remove a lot of commercial opportunities for designers. It's probably a good time to be a creative in general.
This week on the Brandfathers podcast, we break down the future of AI and some of the AI generated ads that we've seen so far. Click below to watch or Listen!
Inspiration:
I’ve been doing a lot of consulting in the golf space with my friends at Big Bird Golf.
I’m excited to share some work that’s finally out ahead of major season in golf!
We had a big team of great people. I played a hybrid role in brand strategy, creative direction and social direction that you’ll see rolling out soon, so stay tuned to Srixon & Cleveland Golf 👀
I called in my friend Paul Ripke (his fist bump is above) on that one. He’s the most creative person I know. We met in Europe on a Nike project years ago and have stayed in touch. We’re now doing social work with Big Bird (onsite in Miami right now) and playing BareFoot Golf when we can. Here’s some of his greatness!
Speaking of MIAMI, tune in to Grant Horvat’s YouTube channel Saturday night. We think this is the best version of Creator Golf yet. Creators + Pros, YouTube Style, Mic’d Up, Commentated by Bob Does Sports & Mason Nutt. It’s the YouTube Golf Avengers.
