The Most Protected Brand in Sports

What You Can Learn from The Masters 🌸

Hello, Friends…

Let’s talk about the most protected brand in all of sports…
Before we do, make sure to scroll down to find out the newest tactic celebrities are using to get millions of views, as well as my latest convo with a millionaire mentor of mine. But, it’s that time…

It's not Nike, it's not the Jordan brand, it's not the Cowboys, and it's not the Lakers. It is The Masters golf tournament, and The Masters teaches us some very valuable things about branding.

Our brand is about who we are, how we show up, and what we do on a day-to-day basis.

Marketing is about how we get attention, where we show up, and when we show up.

The Masters has an extremely defined and clear brand. They care about the golf, the majesty of the course, and they care about the experience on that course.

Augusta National & The Masters keep control over their brand in really unique ways.

The first is their television agreement. It has been a year to year handshake deal since the beginning of this tournament. In an era where billion dollar television deals are structured, this is very different. They turn down money and leave hundreds of millions of dollars on the table each year in exchange for control of their brand. This leads to a valuable product over time- which earns them money over the long run.

They also control that by who they show up with. There are only three television sponsors that are allowed each year, and on the course there are no corporate sponsors allowed. If you go to masters.com, you might try to buy some apparel, or some goods, but the only place that you can get these things is at the tournament experience itself.

In an era of MORE MORE MORE, The Masters teaches us a really important branding and life principle, that sometimes less is more.

Mikey Taylor is one person who has blessed me greatly.
When I went on a journey to understand personal finance years ago, I wondered aloud who would be the next generation’s Dave Ramsey. I believe Mikey is that person. He’s a former pro skater, entrepreneur, City Councilman and a true renaissance man.
He is passionate about Money Talk and many of us need that.
Please enjoy our convo where we discuss Marketing, Money & Entrepreneur lessons.
