Will Nike Pay The Fines?💰
Spoiler Alert: “Paying the fine” is NOT a thing🚫
Breaking news, Rutgers is no longer an Adidas school.
Now, it makes total sense why Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper were wearing Nike shoes at an Adidas school.
First, we have an open records request showing that Adidas does not have a contract with Rutgers currently. Next, an Adidas source is telling me that this contract was canceled. Now, I think there were other issues at hand, but those two recruits wearing their Nikes certainly didn't help.
But, this is a new power struggle we will continue to see with the player empowerment era. Dylan Harper’s father also chimed in on the conversation. Ron Harper, five-time Bulls champ, did retweet my video and basically said, “My kid's going to be wearing Nikes and he has been since he was a baby.”
It's fascinating that the children of some of the most influential athletes are now coming of college age.
You've got highly ranked recruits like Dylan Harper, Carlos Boozer's kid, or Melo's kid. And their parents lived through an era where these athletes could get paid nothing, while the university and the sneaker brands benefited greatly.
You could argue Nike benefited from the Fab Five more than anyone.
Anyway, the fact that there is not an official contract in place explains so much. And I just need to reiterate for you, there is no such thing as the company paying the fine.
In the next one, I'll crush your hopes and dreams about that Jordan story. That is actually not true. But in this one, there is no arbitrary small number.
The first time you fine you get 5% of the entire agreement, which would be $200,000. The second time is 10%. You're talking about millions of dollars worth of fines.
That's just not a thing.
Or there is a voided agreement, which is what we saw here.
